Brendan O’Neill is the Chief Defender of the Office of Defense Services, a position to which he was appointed to by Governor Jack Markell in May 2009. Mr. O’Neill has over thirty years of experience litigating criminal cases in state and federal courts. After starting his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles, California, Mr. O’Neill left the United States Attorney’s Office to start his own law firm, which specialized in criminal defense. He was a managing partner of this firm for fourteen years before he relocated to Delaware. In Delaware, Mr. O’Neill was a Deputy Attorney General in the civil division of the Delaware Attorney General’s Office. In 1995, Mr. O’Neill joined the Public Defender’s Office where he continued to litigate complex felony cases in Delaware trial courts. He also served as the Chief of Legal Services before being appointed as Chief Defender.
