Chief of Planning, Research, & Reentry at the Delaware Department of Correction (DOC)

Joanna Champney is the Chief of Planning, Research, & Reentry at the Delaware Department of Correction (DOC). This specialized unit leads the DOC’s data collection and analysis efforts, facilitates strategic planning, oversees accreditation and compliance, and provides project management for multi-bureau initiatives set by the DOC Commissioner. Most recently, the unit has been assigned the task of expanding and improving prisoner reentry initiatives within the DOC. Prior to joining state government, Mrs. Champney served as the Executive Director of the Delaware Center for Justice (DCJ). While at DCJ, she oversaw a combination of direct service programs and policy reform initiatives. Her work also includes leading the repeal of mandatory minimum drug laws in Delaware as the Executive Director of Stand UP for What’s Right and Just (SURJ). Previously, Joanna also worked with a criminal defense law firm in Maryland and with a major finance company in Delaware.
