Law Enforcement for Special Olympics
Our Mission
One of the organization's largest grass-roots volunteer movements involves hundreds of thousands of law enforcement members throughout the world volunteering their time to raise awareness and resources for Special Olympics. Here in Delaware, every agency is represented in law enforcement's year-round commitment and support. Members of law enforcement from across the state have a presence at all awards ceremonies, regardless of the size of the event. In Delaware, the honor of awarding medals is only bestowed to members of law enforcement. Their collective volunteer efforts include, but are not limited to, the following fundraising events throughout the year: Jeep Rally for Respect, Delaware Memorial Bridge 5K Run to Acceptance, Truck Convoy, Red Robin Tip-A-Cop, Lewes Polar Bear Plunge, 5K Run to the Plunge, Ride to the Tide, Law Enforcement Torch Run and Over the Edge. Officers also solicit advertisements for the annual SODE Year-in-Review and Summer Games program.
Fundraising
Delaware Law Enforcement for Special Olympics celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2021. Over the past 35 years, Delaware Law Enforcement has raised over $9.2 million for Special Olympics Delaware. The partnership between Special Olympics and Delaware Law Enforcement is helping change the future for people with intellectual disabilities and lighting the way for acceptance and inclusion. - Special Olympics Delaware
